Biography

Helena Moore is a British soprano from Herefordshire. She graduated with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music after reading Music at Trinity College, Cambridge. She received an entrance scholarship to continue her studies at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. At the Royal Academy, she was a Finzi Trust Scholar and Bach Kohn Foundation Scholar, as well as receiving the Ethel Bisland Award, and the G Embley Memorial Prize for an outstanding final recital.

In 2020, Helena reached the semi-finals of the Kathleen Ferrier Competition and was nominated for the song prize. Subsequently, she was selected as a young artist for the 2022 Ludlow English Song Festival, working with Iain Burnside and performing with Mark Rogers. In 2023 she was selected as a Leeds Lieder Young Artist, performing with Francesca Orlando and working with Julius Drake, Susan Manoff, and Joan Rodgers. Helena’s love for song repertoire began at Cambridge University where she was selected for the Pembroke Lieder Scheme two years in a row by Joseph Middleton, taking part in regular masterclasses. Other competition successes include reaching the semifinals of the Somerset Song Prize, and winning the French Song Prize (Royal Academy of Music).

In 2022 she was a Garsington Alvarez Young Artist performing in Così fan tutte and Rusalka, which toured to Edinburgh International Festival. Leading opera roles include Galatea (Acis and Galatea), Pamina (Magic Flute), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Iphis (Jephtha) and Venus (Venus and Adonis). Operatic roles in scenes include Adina (L’elisir d’amore), The Governess (Turn of the Screw), Almirena (Rinaldo), Rodelinda (Rodelinda), Sophie (Werther), Ilia (Idomeneo), and Despina (Così fan tutte). 

Helena is an experienced oratorio soloist, recently making her Danish debut performing Messiah solos with the Henrikes Drengekor and Ensemble Midvest in 2021. Whilst at music college, she worked regularly as a Josephine Baker Trust scholar, performing multiple Bach Cantatas as a Kohn Foundation scholar, including solos with Masaaki Susuki, Phillipe Herewegge and John Butt. She regularly sings with the Dunedin Consort, the Academy of Ancient Music, and the English Concert, with whom she looks forward to performing Messiah in Valencia at the end of this season. She was due to make her Wigmore Hall debut in 2020, as a soloist with the RAM baroque orchestra (postponed due to Covid-19).
